ABOUT US
YOUTHphonics A Cappella is UCLA’s student run, all-gender community service a cappella group focused on music, mentorship, and memories. Established in the Winter of 2008, we are dedicated to bringing euphonic melodies to youth in nearby communities. We are a mixed group of UCLA students from a variety of musical and ethnic backgrounds united by our passion for singing and our hope to share that passion with the community around us. We arrange and perform primarily pop music covers and meet 2-3 times a week to rehearse in addition to our twice a week Fairfax site visits.
The Keynotes program was started in effort to provide music lessons and theory to high schools without access to the resources or funds to support music education programs. Along with spearheading this free after school a cappella program at Fairfax High School in West Hollywood, in which we teach music theory and vocal performance very Tuesday and Friday, YOUTHphonics also performs at a variety of charity based events around the UCLA campus and Los Angeles area, and collaborates and perform with other a cappella groups. We work to make a reliable curriculum accessible to Los Angeles youth while simultaneously raising awareness about the importance of music education programs in high schools.
Past performances and community service events include PAC's Annual Dance Marathon, Disneyland's First A Cappella Showcase, Ronald Reagan Hospital Holiday Caroling (with puppies!), Bruin Run/Walk, UCLA basketball and volleyball games, Los Angeles A Cappella Festival, California A Cappella Festival hosted by RV, Gen Z Mental Health Wellness Summit, Open Minds Film Festival, and many more!
WE ARE DEVOTED TO FOSTERING JOY, COMMUNITY, AND MUSICALITY IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM.
